Vacuum cleaners have become a household name; in fact they were destined to become so. The ease with which it performs its task has earned it this place. The reason why they became so famous was that they brought down a lot of manual labor involved in cleaning while still giving perfect result. Initially they were used to clean carpets. As technology improved they were modified to accomplish various tasks of cleaning.

How do Vacuum cleaners work?
The present markets are flooded with innumerable types of Vacuum cleaners. The basic principle behind the working of all of them is the same. To suck the refuse a vacuum is created inside the machine by an electric fan. The fan creates a difference in the air pressure within the machine. The vacuum created inside the cleaner forces the air outside to fill it. As the air from outside enters, the dust also comes in with it. The dust thus entering the machine is collected in a bag that is detachable and can be easily cleaned. This way the principle of vacuum is employed by Vacuum cleaners to keep your abode clean.

Types of Vacuum cleaners
The market is flooded with vacuum cleaners of different models and designs. These are task specific models that are designed to accomplish a particular type of task. Some of the basic models are:
Upright vacuum cleaners come with a cleaning head attached to a handle and a bag. Brush roll or beater bar technique is employed by them. They have two categories under them. They are direct air and fan-bypass vacuum cleaners. The direct air is used in commercial areas and is older of the two models. It is more efficient when compared to the latter and cleans carpets very well but its performance on the floor is very poor. Fan-bypass performs well both on the floor and on carpets but the downside is that they consume a lot of power.

Canister model vacuum cleaners, as the name suggests come with a canister or a cylinder. This canister contains the motor and the bag. The vacuum head is connected to the canister by a hose. The canister has wheels attached to its base for comfortable movements. They are less efficient in comparison to the upright vacuum cleaners but score high in weight and movement around the room. It is because of these qualities they are popular.

Wet vacuum cleaners are designed to clean liquid over objects. They are also equally efficient against dry spoilage. The airflow in these can be reversed. They can be used to blow air. This helps in drying of the surface.

Pneumatic vacuum cleaners are also like the previous category of vacuum cleaners but the only difference being that these are used for commercial purpose.

Back-pack vacuum cleaners are again a class of commercial vacuum cleaners that come with a back pack which the user has to carry on the back.

Central vacuum cleaner also fall under the category of commercial. They have a central unit that houses the motor and bag. To this central unit long hose is attached. Hose is generally 8m long.

Hand-held vacuum cleaner are small sized cleaners that can be operated by holding in hand. They are used for small spoilage.

Vacuum cleaners have come a long way in and have been modified to match various tasks. They are one of the most successful inventions by man.
